چکیده

On 11 January 1998, a cold front formed in southeast China as a result of a cold-air outbreak in northeast Asia. During this synoptic development, a series of roll clouds (along the SW–NE direction) was observed in East Asia; some of the clouds stretched for over a thousand kilometers. This roll cloud formation moved southeastward across Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, and Japan, and eventually into the open ocean. In order to explore the possible cause of these roll clouds the following preliminary analyses were made in this study: 1) the location of roll clouds relative to the cold front was determined in terms of the contrast between the infrared images of the Geostationary Meteorological Satellite of Japan and surface charts issued by the Japan Meteorologi-

LES Simulations of Roll Clouds Observed During Mixed- Phase Arctic Cloud Experiment

Roll clouds and associated roll convection, are fairly common features of the atmospheric boundary layer. While these organized cumuliform clouds are found over many regions of the planet, they are quite ubiquitous near the edge of the polar ice sheets. In particular, during periods of off-ice flow, when cold polar air flows from the ice pack over the relatively warm ocean water, strong boundar...

Seasonal migration of cirrus clouds over the Asian Monsoon regions and the Tibetan Plateau measured from MODIS/Terra

[1] By using a 4-year data set of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) cirrus cloud reflectance, the seasonal migration of cirrus clouds over the Asian Monsoon regions and the Tibetan Plateau has been studied. There are two distinct regions with large amount of high clouds. One is located between the equator and 20 N, where intensified high clouds show clear northward and s...

Analytical Modified Model of Cold Rolling Process and Investigation of the Effect of Work Roll Flattening on the Rolling Force

Cold rolling of steel is one of the most important metal forming processes so an accurate control of its parameters during the process is necessary. In this paper, the friction coefficient has been proposed as a function of cold rolling parameters such as forward slip, forward and backward tensile stresses ,strip thickness, static deformation, resistance of strip before and after rolling ,strip...

A Revisit of the Tropical-midlatitude Interaction in East Asia Caused by Cold Surges

A short-wave train emanating from the Southeast Asian tropics which links interannual variations of the winter climate systems in both East Asia and North America was identified recently. This shortwave train may affect the activity of cold-surge disturbances over the eastern seaboard of East Asia, and the northwestern Pacific. The interaction between cold surges and the planetary-scale winter ...
